Explanation: Both schools or philosophies were created in ancient Greece by their founders Epicurus and Zeno, respectively.

In the framework of Epicureanism, Epicurus advocated a kind of moderate or restrained hedonism, therefore not exaggerated, as a kind of higher pleasure. Mental pleasure as a degree above the physical is therefore considered higher than the physical, and the ultimate supreme pleasure is the release from anxiety and mental pain. According to Epicureanism, mental pain was an impediment to ultimate supreme pleasure, and especially if that mental pain was superfluous and unnecessary, and it was one that arose from the fear of death and the fear of the gods.

Stoicism advocated knowledge as a very important, highest virtue. Everyone who attains wisdom and knowledge lives in accordance with the universal divine Reason. This universal exalted Reason is connected, that is, determines Fate, and governs nature on the basis of natural laws. Anyone who has reached this Reason becomes indifferent to pain, pleasure and vice. However, both Stoicism and Epicureanism advocate restrictive exposure to desires and pleasures.
