Superordinate goals are shared goals that require group cooperation to accomplish effectively.

Without a superordinate goal people tend to choose personal reasons or benefits in a conflict. Humans are generally selfish but ofcourse who wants to constantly suffer for another. A superintendent goal brings people together and gives them reasons to discard their personal desires.

You discover that the power will not be restored for many days. Without power, the fish in the fish tanks at each store will die. Although either individual could afford to purchase a generator individually, they agree to split the cost of a generator thereby saving money because they love fish more than they dislike each other.
