Researchers have found that women find taller men more attractive. What is new in this study is the actual height of the man they were judging did not differ. They had women rate the attractiveness of a man in a photograph on a 10­-point scale. Underneath the photo, there were a few details about the man including his height, career, and where he went to school. The researchers made three versions—one listing the man’s actual height (5'10"), one with the same photo but where it said he was shorter (5'7"), and the third one with the same photo but it listed his height as taller (6'1"). Again, each woman saw one of these three versions and made their rating. Sure enough, when women thought the man was shorter they rated him as significantly less attractive than the exact same photo of the man with his real height listed. And yes, when they thought he was taller, they rated the same man as even more attractive. The researchers concluded that regardless of a man’s actual height, when women think he is taller they tend to find him more attractive.
