In 1756 Marquis de Montcalm arrived with reinforcements. The conquest of Fort Oswego on Lake Ontario and Fort William Henry on Lake George secured the French strategic positions. But by the end of 1757, the British royal and colonial forces had finally organized, allowing them to take advantage of the enormous power and human resources the English colonies had over the French. British colonies at that time had more than 1.5 million people, while New France only had about 80,000.  

However, on July 8, 1758, Montcalm prepared a crushing defeat for the stronger British army at the Battle of Carillon. However, despite this great victory, he still had to retreat. In August 1758, the French lost another important foothold in Fort Frontenac, a small fortress on the shore of Lake Ontario. It was in the key year of 1758 that New France lost the support of a large number of Indians who were weakened by epidemics and many of them concluded an agreement with the English called the Treaty of Easton.

By the fall of Montreal in 1760, French domination of New France had ceased to exist. The war ended with the demise of New France, which was completely dominated by British troops.
