During his presidency, Congress used the following three tactics to control Richard Nixon's power: overthrowing his veto of a resolution restricting presidential war powers, the investigation of Watergate and the demands for an impeachment.

On 7 February 1973, the US Senate set up the Select Committee on Presidential Campaign Activities. It was created to investigate the Watergate accident, better known as the Senate Watergate Committee. During the 1972 election, the committee investigated illegal and immoral conduct. Thus, in the years of his presidency, three ways Congress used to control Richard Nixon was to overrid its veto against a resolution that limited the presidential war powers, the Watergate investigation, and recommendations for prosecution. Richard Nixon was eventually charged.
