The conflict theory was propounded by Karl Marx. As per the theory, society is always in a state of eternal conflict since resources are limited, there exists a consistent struggle between different classes.

As per Marx, the social order is ensured by not consensus or common agreement, but by means of dominance and power. So the rich and powerful will try and hold on to the power they got even if it comes at an expense of exploitation and suppression of the poor.

The theory points towards inequality w.r.t distribution of resources in a society which widens the gap between the rich and the poor, also known as economic disparity.
