Every nation has a mixed approach to involving China, while planning for a change for the worsened in Chinese actions. Every sees its China approach as a position for another.

Possibly, the U.S. has had three imperatives for a much more constructive partnership with India and promoting its increase: vital interest, particularly in China's upswing; national interest; and common democratic principles.  Indian leaders accept American worries as to the existence of China's growth are accountable in some of India's attraction.
