2. Civilian Conservation Corps, or CCC, was established by then United States President, Franklin D. Roosevelt on April 5, 1933. A part of his New Deal legislation, whose purpose is to reduce the high unemployment during the Great Depression by ensuring that thousands of young men were employed on environmental conservation projects.

The CCC developed 56 state, national and local parks in Texas during the period of 1933 till 1942. Thirty-one of these are present in the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department. Other parks serve the public in cities and counties around the state.

In the end, CCC was credited to have planted more than 3.5 billion trees on land made barren from fires, natural erosion, intensive agriculture or lumbering.
