The historical development of prisons in the United States beginning with the Pennsylvania system were characterized with the prisoners being tortured and their bodies mutilated. This was replaced with giving them hard tasks to do as a form of punishment for the various crimes they committed.

The correctional system has changed with time in the new forms of punishment and sentences. The correctional system is neater and not overcrowded unlike before. The system has different skill acquisition centers in the facility for the inmates.

I predict more innovations to be introduced into the correctional facilities such as more sports facilities and more form of comforts with psychological help from experts.
