Even today, most of the C-suite executives in the Fortune 500 companies for example are middle-aged white men.  Women are at a disadvantage for such positions because of other responsibilities to their families, for example. Women can be looked over for promotions and other accolades that are given to their male coworkers because of unspoken prejudices or biases about their skills and their dedication to their work.  Politics are similarly dominated by white men even in the United States to this day.
