There are several political parties in the United States today. The two with the most members are the Republican Party & the Democratic Party.

Political parties try to get their members elected to federal, state, & local offices. They raise money to pay for election campaigns and organize workers to help their candidates.

Political parties have symbols that stand for them. For example, the symbols of the two major parties are animals: the elephant (Republican) and the donkey (Democrat).
