Should I go more in depth ( I can't make it too long ) here's my paragraph : In 1760, Governor of Massachusetts Bernard authorized the use of Writs of assistance proceeds by revenue officials. The Writs of assistance documents act as a public search warrant, letting customs officers go on any boat or building where they think they might have taken goods for any reason. Supplementary letters immediately proved to be an excellent tool in the fight against kidnapping, and many buildings and ships were looted and confiscated.
Shortly after their implementation, a group of Boston merchants, primarily responsible for the abduction in the colonies, appointed Attorney James Odysseus to challenge the Constitution before the Massachusetts Supreme Court in 1761, which he called the Lekmeier Petition.
The court, in close consultation with the authorities in the UK, was greatly affected by the comments of Chief Justice Thomas Hutchinson, who ruled against the Boston merchants and kept the writings in the proper place, noting the use of similar writings in the UK.
The Writs of assistance and Odysseus' arguments made it clear to many that Britain had transgressed its borders, and objections to their use were generally heard at meetings in city halls and throughout the colonies.
The political opposition to the writings ended with the loss of the Boston merchants in the Lekmeier petition.
