The French Revolution was succesful in removing the French Monarchy from power, but it was also unsuccesful in many ways.

The Revolution quickly descended into chaos when many factions began to fight with each other.

For this reason, the Revolution shows that total freedom can easily lead to social and political upheaval, and end in the opposite of what was sought in first place. In the case of the Revolution, the final stage was the return to authoritarianism under the regime of Napoleon.
