A society is a group of people with a common identity, common values, and a shared vision of their place in the world as it is then known.

Civilization is a set of norms - or rules - both prescriptive and proscriptive that administers rewards and failures for conformance.

Society’s citizens, individually and as families, as well as through its institutions (religions, education systems, governments, courts, business, citizen’s groups, etc.) act to model the norms and to administer the rewards and punishments that make a civilization distinct.
