What is the significance of the Great Britain to the History and Culture of the United States?

Great Britain had a large influence on history and culture of United States. First of all, people from England were the first one to settle in this are (from Europe) and to establish colonies here. They brought their customs, religion, language and many other features. Britain was ruling here for almost two  centuries, therefore they shaped the image of the whole continent, and thus the history of United States.
