William James was one of the first philosophers to notice the relationship between individual temperament (that is, personality) and the types of philosophical views that one is likely to find adequate or convincing. James thought that you could classify people into two basic temperamental types:
The tender mind The thought mind
According to James philosophy has been dominated historically by who favour.
One radical set of views over the other set.
A mixture of both types of views.
Free-willist (believing some actions are free)
Fatalistic (believing all actions are determined)
eligious (believing in divinity)
Irreligious (being skeptical of divinity)
Pluralistic (viewing reality as made of many different substances)
Monistic (viewing reality as made of one unified substance)
Dogmatic (being committed to beliefs)
Skeptical (refraining from strong beliefs)
Idealistic (viewing reality as mental)
Materialistic (viewing reality as physical)
Empiricist (going by facts)
Optimistic (seeing the best in a situation)
Pessimistic (seeing the worst in a situation)
Empirical (relying on the senses for knowledge)
Intellectual (relying on reason for knowledge) moderates extremists
