Last week, we were introduced to Dana, a single mom who is going to school and working full-time. You’ve already explored how emotional intelligence could assist Dana with her work struggles, so let’s see how prioritization and problem-solving strategies can be applied in her personal life. Dana’s work life seems a bit rocky, and her personal life is not free of challenges either. To start, her car broke down on Monday, so she was late to work. Since she lives paycheck-to-paycheck, she is unable to afford all the repairs. On Tuesday, Dana had to leave work early because her babysitter got sick, and she did not have anyone to watch her kids. Then on Wednesday, Dana’s landlord gave her a $50 penalty because her rent is late. As you can imagine, Dana feels stressed and finds herself being short-tempered with her loved ones, including her kids. 1. Describe two prioritization strategies or resources that could help Dana effectively manage the responsibilities in her life.
2. Describe a time when you felt like Dana, responsible for competing priorities.
3. Explain how you handled the situation you described in number 2.
