Jaylen just found out his parents are getting a divorce, and he is devastated. At first he was angry but then he was contused and started to feel deep pain and frustration. He tried to figure out how this happened. Was it his fault? Did he do something
wrong? Was there something he could've done? Does he have to choose sides? He was wondering why his mom and dad
were always yelling and fighting but didn't realize it would end with a divorce. He doesn't want to experience this pain forever,
but he doesn't know what to do.
Have you or a friend or family member come from a family of divorce? What did that feel like for you, or how did it impact
your friend or family member? Who are a few people that you can go to for help in a situation like this?
Analyze the story above and share what you think Jaylen should do. Then support your opinion with stories from other
individuals, how turning to others helped them, and how you believe this will help Jaylen in the short term and long term.
Compare your answers with a friend and discuss how you can support each other or someone you know who has or is going
through any painful experiences like divorce.
