The exotic species in Australia, we can also refer to them as invasive species, are a very big threat to the native flora and fauna. The reason for that is that most of this species manage to easily out-compete the native species, be it for food, for space of living, breeding speed. The local flora and fauna in most cases doesn't have any defense mechanism about the new species, so it can not cope with them, the end result being extermination or becoming endangered species on the verge of extinction. This can easily be seen in Australia with the introduction of cats, foxes, rabbits/hairs, some types of frogs, which have terrible effect on the native species.
