The Roman assemblies were institutions of government in ancient Rome. They were assigned legislative duties, and therefore, would most likely be the ones to approve legislation. The assemblies were subject to strong checks by the executive branch and the Roman Senate.

The most important assembly was the Plebeian Council. This allowed the plebeians to pass laws, elect magistrates and try judicial cases. Only the plebeians were allowed to vote in this assembly.
