Thirteen Colonies Web Quest Objective: Identify important facts about the founding of the thirteen original colonies The United States began as thirteen original colonies founded by immigrants to America. Many of these immigrants came from England and received charters from their monarchs. These colonists came to America on quests for religious freedom, land, and adventure. In this research you will learn more about the colonies, the people who established and lives in these colonies. Directions: Follow the instructions in Part A and Part B to complete the assignment. Part A 1. Choose two colonies to research in depth. 2. Identify the following information for each colony: a) Name of colony, year founded, and founder or founders b) Reasons each colony was founded c) Where the settlers came from for each colony d) Origin of the name of the each colony and why the name was given e) Describe the products, crops, and industries of each colony f) Other important facts about each colony that you identify in your research Part B 3. Using the information that you identified in your research, create a compare and contrast list for your (two) colonies. Compare the following areas: a) What country(ies) did the settlers come from? b) What kind of food did they eat? (Hint: What crops/livestock did they raise?) c) What kind of industry is their economy based on? d) What kind of religion did they practice? e) Did the colonies use slave labor?
