Read the selection from the section "It was like a gladiator battle in a giant pool."
As massive ordeals requiring far more resources than your average Roman spectacle,
naumachiae were only orchestrated for exceptionally celebratory occasions. A naumachia was
like a gladiator battle scaled up and tossed into an enormous pool, with competing fleets of
oarsmen and fighters loosely re-enacting a historical battle. Sometimes, they simply improvised
their brutality. Men already awaiting execution sometimes needed to be goaded into killing each
other for the sake of mass entertainment. On, ancient Rome.
What conclusion is BEST supported by this selection?
(A)
Roman society had no sense of right and wrong.
(B)
Romans saw public execution as acceptable.
(C)
Romans were proud of their naval victories.
(D)
