In most developing economies, the share of manufacturing jobs has levelled off at relatively low levels as labour has shifted from agriculture to services, largely bypassing the manufacturing sector.The data shows that productivity increases have had a very large impact on manufacturing jobs. The value of domestically produced manufacturing shipments more than doubled between 1963 and 2015, in real dollars.The change in skills required to perform new tasks in manufacturing, along with import competition and a decline in mobility, have contributed to the decline of employment rate for manufacturing since 2000.Therefore, while the U.S. population grew 9.7 percent between 2000 and 2010, there were much fewer manufacturing jobs for the workers to fill.That's why the decline of manufacturing jobs has impacted wealth inequality.
