c) Create a strong newspaper that is detailed, has a clear organization, and makes good use of
text and graphics.

d) Ask your teacher whether you will be using presentation, drawing, word-processing, or
artistic software to develop the newspaper.

Step 2: Consider the required elements of the newspaper.
a) Your newspaper should include a headline story. A headline story is a paper’s biggest, most
important story.
News stories should:
 provide key facts, such as answers to who, what, where, when, and why.
 attempt to show all sides of a story in a balanced way.
b) Your newspaper should include an interview.
 An interview is a report of a conversation.
c) Your newspaper should include a letter to the editor.
 A letter to the editor is written by a reader to give an opinion on a topic.
d) Your newspaper should include an advertisement.
 An advertisement is a promotion of a product for sale.
Step 3: Think about these steps for creating a successful newspaper.
a) Plan – Sketch out your newspaper and articles on a piece of paper.
b) Draft – Create a rough draft of your newspaper.
c) Revise – Review your work, correct mistakes, and make improvements.
Step 4: Evaluate your newspaper using this checklist. When you can answer “yes” to all of
the questions, you are ready to submit your newspaper.
