During psychology's history, what are the ups and downs of "consciousness"?

Consciousness is a state of being where an individual is aware of himself and his environment. The reason as to why an individual is able to question their purpose, their existence and the circumstances happening in their moment.

During Freud’s time, consciousness came to being when he introduced the theory of the conscious mind. However, when behaviorism came along, consciousness diminished. After a while got back when humanism rose to integrate the importance of self-actualization and awareness.
