Specht and his colleagues conducted a study in 2011 to test how individuals' scores on McCrae & Costa's Big 5 personality Test traits (Openness, Conscientiousness, Extraversion, Agreeableness and Neuroticism) vary across their lifespan. The study found that emotional stability, extraversion, openness and agreeableness formed a U-shaped function, where they were low in early adulthood, peaked at age 40-60 and started declining after age 60.
