Compare the traditions of Carnival to any holiday that you celebrate. Which one (s) are similar? How are they similar?

I decided to compare carnival to mardi gras. during carnival there is a celebration of food, alcohol, and music. it is traditionally held before the start of lent, just like mardi gras. During carnival, most things that are not permitted during lent like eating meat are widely celebrated during Carnival. I think both traditions are similar because they involve music, dancing, floats, and more. They also both occur around the same time. A difference between these two is that Mardi Gras can be seen to be much more extreme in some cases, whereas Carnival might be a bit more sheltered.
