What roles does estrogen play in the feedback mechanism?

Estrogen is a steroid hormone which is required for the maintenance of female characteristics of the female body released by the follicle and corpus luteum of ovary.

They act in females through hormone cascade or sequential action of hormones which are controlled by feedback cycles either in a positive cycle or negative ways.

This hormone is associated with the follicular phase of menstruation as:

1. Negative feedback mechanism- estrogen influence pituitary gland to decrease the production of follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) which stimulate the ovary to produce estradiol.

2. Positive feedback mechanism- occurs near the end of the follicular phase estrogen which causes the anterior pituitary gland to release more FSH.

Thus, estrogen act by both positive and negative feedback mechanism.
