PLZ help! examine the layers of rock. how does layering provide evidence for determining geologic age?

the lowest the layer, the older the rock

If the rock is at the top, it is the youngest and if it is at the bottom, it is the oldest. This is what i remember from 6th grade, hope this kind of helps.

So that’s best way I could think to word it, but basically the layers are different types of souls and have different fossils in them, sometimes there will even be layers of ash if there was a large fire, so you can see what was going on at the time, the top layers being the most recent
