Most of the time the words "elastic stockings" are not usually used but we make use of "compression stockings'' or "surgical stockings" instead, the three means the same thing.

Elastic stockings or compression stockings or surgical stockings are used most times after surgical operations but it can also be use before operation. Elastic stockings are usually worn so as to make sure that the patient's venous return is enhanced.

If I am to assess the patient wearing elastic stockings as ordered by the physician post-op, I will remove it for proper assessment of the leg and then put it back after the assessment.
