The Keystone Pipeline has an inside diameter of 36 inches andcarries a flow rate of 590,000 barrels of crude oil per day at 40°C. If the pipe is new, non-corroded steel, estimate the pumphorsepower required per mile of pipe. Use rho=1.67 slug/ft3 andμ=1.11x10-4 slug/ft*sec for the oil. This pipeline is in a coldenvironment, does it make sense that the oil is so warm?
