1A1: Innovation in Engineering Controls There are some amazing innovations when it comes to controlling hazards. It seems as new problems arise, someone has a great engineering idea to solve it.
Research a new engineering innovation that is meant to control one of the physicalhazards discussed in this module - noise, extreme temperatures, radiation,
or pressure. This will take some research and reading on the internet, but it does not have to be a control that is being marketed and used. It can be an off the
wall idea that someone is trying to get started. Sometime those oddball ideas become reality for industry.
Describe in detail the following:
• What is the new engineering control?
How does it work?
What hazards will it control?
Do you feel it will be a good solution?
Your answers should be neatly typed into a Word Document. Reference any research materials that you use.

Amass of 1.5 kg of air at 120 kpa and 24°c is contained in a gas-tight, frictionless piston-cylinder device. the air is now compressed to a final pressure of 720 kpa. during the process, heat is transferred from the air such that the temperature inside the cylinder remains constant. calculate the boundary work input during this process.

Apiston-cylinder with a volume of 0.25 m3 holds 1 kg of air (r 0.287 k/kgk) at a temperature of 100 c. heat transfer to the cylinder causes an isothermal expansion of the piston until the volume triples. how much heat is added to the piston-cylinder?

A2-m rigid tank initially contains saturated water vapor at 100 kpa. the tank is connected to a supply line through a valve. steam is flowing in the supply line at 600 kpa and 300 c. the valve is opened, and steam is allowed to enter the tank until the pressure in the tank reaches the line pressure, at which point the valve is closed. a thermometer placed in the tank indicates that the temperature at the final state is 200°c. determine (a) the mass of steam that has entered the tank (b) the amount of heat transfer.
