In Wordsworth's poem, the landscape is almost like a miniature in order to convey the modesty with which Lucy lived her life: she is like a violet among the moss, and like a star in an almost starless night; hr existence is barely noticeable; and although these elements of nature with which the poet compares them may seem negligible, Lucy's worth becomes very evident when she is no longer there.
