We've all heard the saying "good things come in small packages." however, today it seems like many small things ordered over the internet come in huge packages. for instance, when my wife ordered a tube of lipstick from an online store, it came in a container the size of a shoe box. when i ordered a new pen, it came in a box that could have held 200 pens!
shipping things in boxes that are too big is very wasteful. manufacturing cardboard boxes uses a lot of paper and water. even though small items don't weigh much, when they are packed in big boxes they take up more room in delivery vehicles. that means those trucks have to make more trips and use more fuel, which in effect gives off more pollution.
what can consumers do about this waste? first, they can complain to the companies that ship small things in large packages. second, they can recycle those big boxes.

which of these sentences would the author most likely agree with?

a.
people should shop on the internet instead of in local stores.
b.
trucks are not for transporting cardboard boxes.
c.
products that weigh more should be packaged in larger boxes.
d.
many companies should rethink how they package and ship items.

Read the excerpt from rena's promise: two sisters in auschwitz. “i have a favor to ask of you, andrzej . . this is very difficult for me, but i must ask. it is no longer safe in tylicz for rena. her mother and i are worried for her safety every day.” “i heard what happened last night, mr. kornreich. i understand your concern.” “i have no money to pay you for this favor.” “sir, i would not take any money from you. she is my friend since childhood. i will do whatever you ask to your daughter.” “ you.” papa paused, stroking his chin where his beard should have been. “you seem like a man of your word. if you would bring rena across the border to slovakia, her mother and i might find sleep at night.” which best summarizes the excerpt? although he does not trust andrzej, rena’s father fears for his daughter’s life and finally agrees to leave her with him. slovakia is the only safe place for the jews of europe, and andrzej has agreed to take rena there. rena’s father asks andrzej to take her to safety in slovakia, and he agrees to do so. after much deliberation, rena’s father pays a polish man to take her safely across the border to slovakia. mark this and return

The major was a little man with upturned mustaches. he had been in the war in libya and wore two wound-stripes. he said that if the thing went well he would see that i was decorated. i said i hoped it would go well but that he was too kind. i asked him if there was a big dugout where the drivers could stay and he sent a soldier to show me. i went with him and found the dugout, which was very good. the drivers were with it and i left them there. what effect does hemingway’s limited use of adjectives have? it slows down the narration by interrupting the action. it makes the few descriptive words he does use more vivid and forceful. it makes the narrator seem powerless and insincere. it prevents the readers from filling in the details with their own experiences.
