In my opinion, the primary conflict in On the Other Side is the fact that Luke's family shows such strong racism towards the Native Americans. This can be supported by the information given in the selection, such as, the rising and falling action that was surrounding Luke's adventure to the Buffalo hunt. At first, Luke's parents didn't want him to be friends with a Native American boy, and they even refused to let him go to the hunt. After escaping his room after his father locked him in, Luke's father even showed up to the hunt himself to talk to Luke. In the end, the issue is resolved because Luke finds out that his father is part Native American and he actually accepts the fact that Luke wants to be friends with the boy from the tribe.
