The Lieutenant tells Beah, "We are not like the rebels, those riffraffs who kill people for no
reason. We kill them for the good and betterment of this country" (Beah 123). Why would
the Lieutenant say this to his men? What is he trying to do? Also, explain why Beah
would have included this quote--how does it characterize the Lieutenant?
