I would say they are. Their appearance is different due to mixing with different types of whites, even though Americans originated from Europe and/or Britain. Their accents are very different, and the way they each spell the same English words are different. The political parties are different. Britain is much much older than America. If there is a sliding scale of more liberal and more conservative, I would personally say the Britain is on the more liberal side overall.
