He bears too great a mind. But this same day Must end that work the ides of March begun . . . . The excerpt above is from Brutus’ farewell speech to Cassius. How do Brutus’ words highlight the theme of honor in The Tragedy of Julius Caesar? Brutus’ honor makes him not want to fight the war against Octavius army. He wants to join them instead. Brutus’ honor has died. He wants Octavius to overtake his army so that he can return to Rome as a prisoner. Brutus’ honor will not allow him to return to Rome “bound,” or as a prisoner of Octavius’ army. He assassinated Caesar to end such tyranny. Brutus is concerned about Cassius’ honor. He wants Octavius to overtake Cassius’ army so that he can return to Rome as a prisoner.
