Dr. Brighton and my fellow School Board Trustees: 1 Over the past several months, a burden has been placed on our students and staff that has never been experienced before. As we have watched the whole world come to a halt, our education system has been put in a new spotlight as a necessity of not only community, but order and structure within our society. This is doubly important for our students. They still need community. They still need their teachers. They still need Social Studies, Math, Science, ELAR. They still need Art, Music, Athletics. They still need us – adults who are experiencing this with them. How do we provide this educational access in the middle of this unprecedented situation? The answer is why I am here today: technology. As the director of technology now for five years, we have watched our budget shrink and these funds go to sports and other district initiatives. While I am not suggesting these programs aren’t important, today I stand before you asking that technology be put back into the primary budgetary conversation as I propose a 75% increase in our budget in order to purchase technology that can be put in the hands of our teachers and students so that learning may continue in our new remote norm.
