One example of a metaphor that is continued throughout the whole poem compares voices to the speakers doubts about leaving, "though the voices around you kept shouting their bad advice." Then, as the journey progresses, the speakers doubts subside, as do the voices., "there was a new voice which you slowly recognized as your own."
