When Theseus was born, his father, King Aegean, left instructions to the boy's mother. "When my son can lift the big stone at the entrance of the forest and find what is underneath, send it to Athens." So was Theseus to prove that he was a man. When Theseus became a young man, he easily lifted the stone, discovering an exquisite pair of sandals that was placed on his feet and then continued on his journey to Athens. Along the way, he once again displayed his skills by evading the thief's evil intentions. Before reaching Athens, he encountered a malicious giant, but, once again, Theseus proved himself more than a match for the challenge. When Theseus arrived in Athens, the Aegean king recognized him immediately by the fine sandals he was wearing. "My son," he said, "now you are ready to take your place beside me on the throne."What drives Theseus's trip to Athens? 1. her discovery of the sandals 2. her desire to meet his father 3. his interactions with the giant 4. her defeat of the thief
