Bud returns to the Mission, but his pretend family is absent. So bud eats his homework without the sugar(brown). When he returns to the library, he winds up into a conversation with the librarian, who gives him a book on the Civil War, which he states he's interested in earlier.Not only does she give him the book on the Civil War, but she also gives him the book with the info. of how to go to town to town, which he copies on a blank sheet of paper. At the end of the chapter, Bud begins to think about how ideas begin and frow like seeds.
