What initial steps might a teen take to improve dysfunctional family relationships? ?

A dysfunctional family does not have a healthy function as a family. Children suffers from this kind of set up. They are having a hard time having a close relationship to people, trusting them and having low self esteem. Once the teen recognizes this, he or she should take initial steps such as having supportive friends that he or she can open up his or her feelings so that he or she can be at ease. A teen should also have a good spiritual relationship with God in order to surpass the trial and will believe it is not yet the end of the world thus he or she can regain her self esteem.
