How did communism affect china’s foreign policy

Communism made China closed to most of the world. At first they were in good relations with the Soviets but they had a split at one point and China started living more or less in isolation, often cooperating with only Communist countries from the South East Asian region. As time went by, they opened up towards the west during the 70s and 80s.
