How did the coastline of the conferderacy offer the south an advantage during the civil war ?

The main way in which the coastline of the Confederacy offered the south an advantage during the civil war was that it allowed to a great deal of trade to be done through a variety of ports--keeping the South relatively well-stocked with produce and other goods.
