Since Richard Nixon was the Vicepresident of the United States he showed he was capable to compete for the US presidency. His role in foreign policy took him to Venezuela in 1958, where he was attacked on May 13, during an official visit. He showed character during those difficult moments and when he got back to the US, he was received as a hero.

Nixon became the 37th President of the United States on January 20, 1969. He had his ups and downs during his administration, facing difficult moments during the Vietnam War, and better moments when he applied the foreign policy of détente with the Soviet Union and China.

However, his political ambition blinded him. The Watergate Scandal represented the beginning of the end of his administration.
