Why was the Emancipation Proclamation so important? Do you think Lincoln should have gone further in 1863? Why or why not?

The proclamation was to say slavery will not spread any further. Lincoln was fine taking the slow path because it was better for the whole country to move slowly rather than forced into a new era of completely no slavery.
