Why did South Carolinians support the establishment of a new state government after the American Revolution? In case of further British attack, they supported a new state government to provide greater protection at home. The national government could not adequately address local economic and social issues as a state government could. They opposed the formation of a strong national government and sought to create a strong state government instead. To amend ties between Loyalists and Patriots, a new state government was formed as a symbol of a new start together.
