What happens if the house and senate version of a bill are different

When the House and the Senate pass different versions of a bill, a Conference Committee is convened. The main role of this committee is to be a temporary panel in which representatives of both chambers work together to reconcile their difference over different versions of a bill, in order to reach a compromise.

If a compromise is reached, the "managers" or conferees prepare a conference report and then they send it to each chamber. Once the conference report is approved by the chambers, the bill is sent to the President for signature so that it can become a law.
