Virginia Supreme Court ⇒ Seven Justices, No jury; Appellate jurisdiction, limited Original jurisdiction.

The Virginia Supreme Court has only 7 Justices and as the Highest court in the land, has limited original jurisdiction in that cases can only generally be heard on appeal from the Court of Appeals.

Virginia Court of Appeals ⇒ Judges with no jury, Appellate original jurisdiction over Circuit Court.

The Court of Appeals sits directly below the Supreme Court and has 11 Judges that preside over cases on appeal from the Circuit Courts as well as the Virginia Workers' Compensation Commission.

Virginia Circuit Court ⇒ Judges with or without a jury, original jurisdiction over felonies and bigger civil cases, appeals from general district court trials and JRDC.

The Circuit Court is a Court of original jurisdiction and has said jurisdiction over crimes like felonies and larger civil cases.  They also listen to appeals from the General district courts.

Virginia General District Court and Juvenile & Domestic Relations Court ⇒ Judges with no Jury, Original jurisdiction over misdemeanors, small claims, family cases and young (juvenile) offenders.

The General District Court handles small claims and misdemeanors such as juvenile offences and family cases. Their decisions can be appealed at the Virginia Circuit Court.
